Flagship Language Courses

Students on the Russian Overseas Flagship Program in Almaty have a rigorous weekly academic schedule. Below is the breakdown of weekly contact hours for each subject covered in the Flagship language courses: 

Fall Semester

Phonetics and Speech Practice – 7 hours per week

Grammar – 4 hours per week

Reading – 4 hours per week

Writing – 2 hours per week

Intercultural Communication – 2 hours per week

Home Reading - 2 hours per week

Independent Research Project - 2 hours per week

Spring Semester

Phonetics and Speech Practice – 7 hours per week

Grammar – 4 hours per week

Reading – 4 hours per week

Writing – 3 hours per week

Cinema – 2 hours per week

Mass Media  – 2 hours per week

During both semesters, students may also take elementary Kazakh language classes (twice a week) and participate in optional language instruction in phonetics, mass media, rhetoric, literature, and business Russian.
