Bryn Mawr College | Bryn Mawr, PA 

The Russian Language Flagship at Bryn Mawr College was created under the auspices of the National Security Education Program (NSEP)/National Flagship Language Program (NFLP) to address the critical need for U.S. professionals to use Russian at the highest levels of functional proficiency. It is the one of eight Russian Language Flagship programs in the U.S. and is the only one of these eight to be located at a women's liberal arts college. The ultimate goal of the program is for all students to reach the "superior level" (ILR level 3) of proficiency in Russian according to ACTFL proficiency guidelines.

The program is open to undergraduates of Bryn MawrHaverford, and Swarthmore Colleges (Tri-Co) who are U.S. citizens and committed to attaining professional level language proficiency through an intensive language and culture training program tailored to their professional interests and academic specialization.

The Mission of the Russian Flagship at Indiana University is simple: We aim to shape Undergraduate students into outstanding global professionals with superior language proficiency and expert cultural fluency. The faculty, staff, and tutors in the Russian Flagship Program at IU are committed to implementing the state-of-the-art methods, tools, and assessments outlined by the National Security Education Program (NSEP) to ensure that students succeed in obtaining their Flagship Certification. We ensure that IU Russian Flagship students gain the skills, the experience, and the confidence to meet contemporary global challenges head-on, and we help students secure their futures as the next generation of leaders who will boldly lead the way—like a Flagship—in forging new intellectual pathways and building bridges between international communities.

Portland State University | Portland, OR 

The Russian Flagship Program at Portland State University is an innovative undergraduate Russian language program that encourages students to combine a major in any discipline with achieving professional level of proficiency in Russian. The students achieve this remarkable outcome by completing part of their studies domestically at PSU and part abroad for both a summer and an academic year. At graduation PSU’s Russian Flagship students are ready for exciting careers using their language and intercultural skills in a globalized world.

University of California Los Angeles | Los Angeles, CA

The UCLA Russian Flagship is a unique language program designed to enable students to achieve professional-level competence in Russian at the undergraduate level. Flagship students receive individualized attention from faculty and staff.

Flagship is open to students in any major and the program is designed to integrate language study with a student’s major. Flagship students take courses in Russian language and area studies, with individualized study plans to complement their majors. All Flagship students receive tutoring in Russian and have the opportunity to study abroad for a summer and an academic year.

Flagship graduates are prepared to take a leading role in the global market and are highly competitive for scholarships, graduate school and jobs.

University of Georgia | Athens, GA

The University of Georgia Russian Flagship program is open to undergraduate students in any major who are interested in gaining high-level proficiency in Russian, advanced intercultural awareness, and the advantage of "Flagship certification"- a professional distinction highly regarded by employers seeking talented candidates with such skills. The University of Georgia Russian Flagship program is one of very few Russian language programs in the nation that are funded by The Language Flagship, a federal initiative designed to enable students to develop professional-level competence (ACTFL-3 Superior) in nationally strategic languages.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill | Chapel Hill, NC

The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Russian Flagship Program (UNCRFP) is a federally funded initiative that supports motivated undergraduate students of all majors to attain a professional level of proficiency in the Russian language. The Russian Flagship Program at UNC-Chapel Hill is a joint collaboration between the Department of Germanic & Slavic Languages & Literatures and the Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies, and is one of eight Russian Language Flagship programs in the US sponsored by the National Security Education Program (NSEP).

University of Wisconsin-Madison | Madison, WI

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Russian Flagship Program is a federally funded program that provides opportunities for undergraduate students of any major to reach a professional level of competence in Russian by graduation. The program not only strives to increase students’ Russian language proficiency and intercultural competencies, but also links students’ intensive language study with their other academic interests and professional aspirations. The program welcomes applications from undergraduates of all majors and at any level of prior experience in Russian.

The Russian Flagship Program is a collaborative initiative of the Department of German, Nordic, and Slavic and the Language Institute, with the Center for Russia, East Europe, and Central Asia and the Doctoral Program in Second Language Acquisition, funded by The Language Flagship, a public/private partnership sponsored by the National Security Education Program (NSEP).

Virginia Tech | Blacksburg, VA

The Russian Flagship Program at Virginia Tech is designed to provide students with the linguistic and cultural tools to achieve professional-level proficiency in Russian and a high degree of cultural competence. Through a combination of coursework, tutoring, co-curricular activities, and study abroad, students develop skills that prepare them for a wide variety of careers in public service and the private sector. Students from all majors are encouraged to apply to the program.
